It's that time of year again...gearing up for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) 5K. This year, JAGUARS, COUGARS & LIONS will make #BigCatStrides on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Forest Park in St. Louis, Missouri.

As Team Captain for JAGUARS, COUGARS & LIONS, I am writing to ask for your support. This is my 4th year of participation in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K and 1st year serving as a Making Strides of St. Louis Committee Member.

JAGUARS, COUGARS & LIONS is an inter-generational team. We (Harry Penelton, Pat Penelton, Shelley Penelton, Belinda Little, Malkia White, Jeanette White, & Gary White) invite you to join our team and/or make a tax-deductible donation.

Molasses describes her beautiful, ebon skin and her sweet nature. However, I bestowed this nickname upon her in 2009, when I learned that it accurately describes her pace. My hurried movements and verbal warnings are null and void when I stress the importance of going. From my lips to her ears, she’s determined that a slow, steady pace is appropriate. And that’s one of the many reasons why I love her! At the tender age of 4, she already knew that “slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when” God’s “vision will be fulfilled.” (Habakkuk 2:3, TLB).

Yesterday, she celebrated 10 years of life and I thank God for allowing me to see her mature. I am overjoyed to introduce you to my Goddaughter/Molasses/Angel/Future Spelman Sister, Erin N. Johnson. I pray that her testimony will give you hope to believe in God’s vision for your life.

"There is a right time for everything:" with a friendship spanning 16 years, we've always made "time to laugh." (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4, TLB). Whenever I get together with this month's Vehicle of Compassion, we have a giggle fest! Our cross-country adventures have created special memories we can only discuss in the company of an elite group.

From a distance, I've watched her raise two beautiful daughters, pursue advanced degrees, and climb the Human Resources Management ladder.

Years ago, via a brief conversation with her youngest daughter, I learned she believes in Jesus (and was rearing her little girls to believe in God's omnipresence). While her family visited my home at 816 Jackson Street, Jefferson City, MO, I indicated I lived alone--just "me, myself and I" (pre-Beyonce's 2003 hit single). Looking up at me with angelic eyes and touching my hand, her baby girl assuredly stated: "You're not alone!"

With great enthusiam, I am pleased to renew the Vehicles of Compassion feature with the introduction of my friend/Road Dog/Angel, Belinda (Rucker) Little. I am confident that you will be encouraged and inspired as you read about the August 2015 Vehicle of Compassion, Ms. B.
